Sitting amongst a tree lined lane in Lilyfield, this existing Victorian terrace was the perfect candidate for a new sympathetic contemporary rear and upper-level addition. Located behind the existing terrace roof line (with the aid of a link roof), this expansive addition is virtually invisible from the street and transforms this tiny two bedroom, one bathroom terrace into a four bedroom, three bathroom home, with rear lane access to a subterranean garage. Above the garage sits a rooftop garden with views through the trees to Barangaroo and the iconic Sydney Harbour bridge.

Because of the nature of the block, we looked at introducing many design elements to provide natural sunlight and breezes throughout the house, including internal gardens, operable skylights, pop-up roofs with highlight glazing as well as large glazed doors and windows where achievable. This helped to transform the existing cold and dark terrace into a light and airy sustainable modern home that will easily cater for the client's large family and provide an amazing entertainers paradise hidden in the trees.
